Description: Established 1901, The Gregg School is an independent day school for girls and boys aged 11-16 years.
Strengths: An exceptionally strong family-orientated ethos which delivers outstanding pastoral care, and with just 320 students no one gets lost in the crowd. The school is not academically selective and yet achieves excellent value-added results at GCSE. The school also offers a very comprehensive transport service tailored to the needs of students.
Latest facilities: There has recently been significant investment in outdoor sports facilities, creating new football and cricket pitches.
Results: In 2010, 90 per cent of students achieved five or more
A*-C passes at GCSE.

King Edward VI School

Description: King Edward’s was founded in 1553 and is now a fully co-educational day school for pupils aged 11-18 years.
Strengths: King Edward's is renowned for academic excellence, however pupils have the chance to exploit the myriad of co-curricular opportunities on offer in order to broaden their horizons, learn new skills, serve their community and contribute to a lively and flourishing school.
Latest facilities: The school has recently undergone a major refurbishment programme which includes all classrooms and specialist laboratories. A dance studio has been added to the extensive facilities and in recent years the two all-weather surfaces have been relaid.
Results: Typically 90 per cent of students pass their A levels with grades at A*, A or B with over 25 per cent at A*. Around 50 per cent gain 3 A grades and 10-15 per cent gain places at Oxford or Cambridge; over four-fifths proceed to Russell Group universities.

Description: Charlton House Day Nursery for boys and girls aged 3-4 years; Charlton House Preparatory School for boys and girls aged 4-11 years; and St Mary’s College Day School for boys and girls aged 11-16 years. All schools have extended hours 7.45am-5.30pm.
Strengths: St Mary’s College was established in 1922 by the Brothers of Christian Instruction. This Christian school welcomes all faiths and is set in 18 acres of woodland with ample playing and sports fields. It is caring and supportive with small class sizes while being academically challenging with high academic standards and achievements.
Latest facilities: St Mary’s College has added a new fitness room for its staff and students. The school also welcomes a new chef.
Results: Over recent years St Mary’s College students have gained an average 95 per cent five A*-C GCSE grades including English and Maths.

Portsmouth Grammar School

Description: Portsmouth Grammar School is a family school for girls and boys of all ages with a reputation as one of the leading co-educational schools in the country. It comprises Nursery and Junior School (2½ -11 years) and Senior School and Sixth Form (11-18 years).
Strengths: The school offers state-of-the-art facilities in a unique location at the heart of Old Portsmouth. Pupils enjoy a thriving co-curricular programme where roundedness is key: opportunities abound in sport, music, drama, the Combined Cadet Force and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The annual musical at the Kings Theatre in Southsea, a prestigious partnership with the London Mozart Players, appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and national team appearances in both girls' and boys' sports at all ages are integral to providing opportunities outside the classroom. Latest facilities: The Bristow-Clavell Science Centre, flagship science building, has played host to a packed 2011 calendar of science-themed public lectures alongside normal lessons, and attracted luminaries of the scientific world from Simon Singh to Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell.
Results: In a happy, caring and supportive environment, pupils achieve outstanding GCSE, A level and IB results with most pupils going on to their first choice of university. Over 81 per cent of all subject entries were awarded either A* to B at A Level or the equivalent of 7, 6, 5 in Higher Level at IB.
